Fitness for Flatbush (F3)

HCC, in partnership with The BIG Live and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH) at SUNY Downstate, developed: "Fitness for Flatbush - A Collaborative Effort to Address Fitness Barriers in Central Brooklyn." This research project was developed as part of AAIUH's Brooklyn Health Disparities Summer Internship Program (BHDSIP).

Since 2012, #TBLTV has worked closely with The Arthur Ashe Institute’s Health Disparities Summer Internship Program (HDSIP) by the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center at SUNY Down State. HDSIP interns attended morning classes at the SUNY Downstate campus; in afternoons they worked on research projects at community based organizations. Through videos and presentations, students learned about the impact of ethnicity, race and poverty on health outcomes; then disseminate the findings through several social media streams.  With The Arthur Ashe Institute; #TBLTV collectively raised public awareness of municipal health figures within urban culture, aligned the results with socio-economic statistics and merged the findings with SUNY Down State’s organizational mission.  That's #BIG! That's #TheBIGLIveTV!

#CollegeChick
"I realized through working with the youth that many of them have a hard time seeing past the hood. Some don't even see higher education for themselves!  The BIG Live Corp is committed to our communities and wanted to illustrate college.  We wanted to artistically express the beautiful experiences of higher education!  We also understand that the youth understand and appreciate hip hop culture, so we gave them a piece of my college life."
